DJ Tech Schedule Timer

Automatic bells. Zero manual work.

App v2.0Bell unit software v2.2Android

1Know your bell unit

The bell unit keeps its own clock and stores your bell times. Once a timetable is sent to it and switched on, it rings the bell by itself, every day. Your phone does not need to stay nearby.

The display light

To save power, the display light switches off 3 minutes after the last activity. The unit still works and bells still ring. The light comes back by itself when a bell rings, when the app connects or sends something, or when a phone joins the unit's WiFi.

2Install the app

The app is for Android phones. It is not in the Play Store; you get it from the QR code on the bell unit.

  1. Scan the QR code on the bell unit with the phone camera.
  2. On the page that opens, tap Download the app.
  3. Open the downloaded file.
  4. If the phone asks, tap Settings, switch on Allow from this source, and go back.
  5. Tap Install, then Open.
  6. The first time, allow notifications and alarms when the app asks.
To update the app later, scan the same QR code and install again. Your timetables stay on the phone.

3First-time setup and pairing

Each phone must be paired with the unit once. Pairing needs the code shown on the unit's display, so only someone standing at the unit can add a phone.

  1. Power on the unit. After the welcome screen, note the ID on the top line, for example ID6.
  2. Join the unit's WiFi. In the phone's WiFi settings choose DJ TECH Bell v2.2. The password is 88888888.
  3. Stay connected. The phone will say this WiFi has no internet. That is correct. Choose to keep the connection. Keep mobile data ON too. If the phone's screen locks by itself, that is not harmful: see "Screen was auto-locked".
  4. Open the app. On the home screen, press and hold RING for 5 seconds. The Device ID Configuration page opens.
  5. Set the ID. Tap the three switches until the large number equals the unit's ID.
  6. Tap SEARCH UNIT. The unit beeps and its display shows PAIRING CODE with 6 digits, for 1 minute.
  7. Type the code in the app and tap Pair. The unit shows PHONE PAIRED and beeps once.
  8. Done. The app shows Connected, and the unit's light is steady.

Example only. The code is random and different every time.

One code, one phone

Each code works for one phone only. As soon as a phone is paired, the unit makes a new random code. The next phone must read the new code from the display.

What happensCode on the display
Phone A taps SEARCH UNIT482913
Phone A pairs with 482913Changes to 739201
Phone B taps SEARCH UNIT and pairs with 739201Changes to 058463
Someone tries 482913 againRefused, it is an old code
Pairing is needed only once per phone. A paired phone never types the code again, also when used through the internet.
After a factory reset, all paired phones are removed and the unit makes a new code. Every phone, the primary and all others, must pair again.
Wrong code 5 times locks pairing for 5 minutes, and the unit makes a new code. Wait, then tap SEARCH UNIT again and read the new code.

GreyNo bell times set yet.

5Set bell times

Each of the five timetables is separate, for example one for normal days, one for exam days and one for half days. Each holds up to 30 bell times. A bell time is called a preset.

  1. Tap a timetable button on the home screen. The page opens locked, so nothing changes by accident.
  2. Tap MODIFY (pink). The page unlocks.
  3. Choose the days. Tap MO to SU at the top. Green days are on. At least one day is needed.
  4. Set each preset. Slide the Hour, Minute and Duration wheels. Duration is the ring length, 1 to 5 seconds. A preset you change gets an orange border until you save.
  5. Tap SAVE. A green message says "Presets saved successfully", and the page locks again.
  6. Send it to the unit. With the app Connected, move the slide switch to UPLOAD and tap UPLOAD. The unit shows Data Received! and beeps once.
Timetable page, locked
Locked (view)
Timetable page, editing
After MODIFY (edit)
Uploading also sets the unit's clock from your phone and makes that timetable the running one. Make sure the phone's time is right.

Give a timetable a name

Hold the name at the top of the page for 5 seconds. A text box appears. Type up to 12 letters or digits, for example EXAM, then tap Done. The name shows in the app and on the unit's display after the next upload.

Clear a timetable

After MODIFY, hold SAVE for 5 seconds. It turns red and reads RESETTING. All presets, days and the name are cleared, on the phone and on the unit.

The app will not save when no day is selected, a preset has a time but duration 0, a preset has a duration but time 00:00, or every preset is empty. An orange Cannot Save box tells you which preset to fix. To leave a preset unused, set all three values to 00.

6Switch a timetable on or off

  1. Press and hold the timetable button for 3 seconds. A ring fills up around your finger.
  2. It turns green and glows. The unit beeps once and shows ACTIVE: with its name.
  3. To switch it off, hold the green button for 3 seconds. The unit beeps twice.

Only one timetable runs at a time. Switching another one on replaces it. The unit remembers the running timetable through a power cut.

If the phone is not connected, the timetable is switched on in the app only, and the app tells you. Connect and hold the button again.

7Ring the bell by hand

  1. On the home screen, tap RING.
  2. Press and hold the round orange button. It turns red and reads RINGING, and the unit shows EMERGENCY ALARM.
  3. Let go to stop.
RING page
The RING page
For safety, the bell stops by itself after 5 seconds, even if the phone loses the connection. It can never stay on.

A quick tap does nothing, so the bell cannot ring by a slip of the finger. Timetable bells are not affected.

8Bell alerts on your phone

When a bell is due, your phone alerts you too, even away from the unit.

Your phone isWhat you get

Export timers PROSaves all 5 timetables to a file and shares it (WhatsApp, email, Drive).
Import timers PROLoads all 5 timetables from such a file. Then upload each one to the unit.

When more than one phone is used

Every time your phone connects, the app checks the unit. A small window shows the result:

An orange bar "Timers on the bell were changed" means your copy is old. Tap it to sync.

10Phones and unit ID

Phones on a BASIC unit BASIC

Up to 3 phones can use a BASIC unit: one primary (the first one paired) and two secondary. The list is on the Device ID page. The primary phone can REMOVE a phone or MAKE PRIMARY another one.

To take your own phone off the unit, hold RESET on the Device ID page for 5 seconds.

Unit ID and more units

Every unit has an ID from 0 to 7, set by three small switches. Up to 8 units can work in one building. The app controls only the unit whose ID it is paired with, so units are never mixed up.

  1. Move the three switches inside the unit to the new position.
  2. Wait 3 seconds. The unit shows ID CHANGED TO and restarts with the new ID.
  3. In the app, set the same ID on the Device ID page and tap SEARCH UNIT.

Up to 4 phones can be on the unit's WiFi at the same time.

11Upgrade to PRO

A BASIC unit becomes PRO with one code. Same unit, no new hardware. PRO adds control from anywhere, master and users with PINs, the record of changes, and saving timetables to a file.

  1. On the Device ID page, find the gold card Upgrade to PRO.
  2. Give the Serial number on the card to your dealer (tap the copy icon to copy it).
  3. The dealer gives you an 8-digit code made for this unit only.
  4. With the phone on the unit's WiFi, tap ENTER UNLOCK CODE, type the code and tap Send.
  5. The app says This bell unit is now PRO. The unit shows PRO UNLOCKED.

12PRO: control from anywhere PRO

The unit can join a WiFi with internet (campus WiFi or a phone hotspot). Then the app works from anywhere: timetables, switching, clock and ringing by hand.

  1. With the phone on the unit's WiFi, open the Device ID page and find Remote Access (Internet).
  2. Type the WiFi name and WiFi password of the internet WiFi.
  3. Tap SEND WIFI TO BELL. The unit shows Internet WiFi Set!
  4. Wait about a minute. The unit's display shows NET when it is online, and the card says Remote access is ready.
  5. Now the app works on mobile data too, away from the unit.
Remote Access card

If the internet goes down, the bells still ring on time as usual.

To remove the internet WiFi, hold REMOVE on the card for 5 seconds.

13PRO: master, users and record PRO

On a PRO unit, one master and up to 5 users can change the bells, each with their own mobile number and 4-digit PIN.

Set a master on the first day. Until a master is set, any paired phone can change the bells.

Set the master

  1. On the Device ID page, tap USERS & ACCESS.
  2. Type your mobile number and a 4-digit PIN.
  3. Tap SET AS MASTER (on the unit's WiFi). The boxes turn green.

Add users

  1. Logged in as master, find Users List.
  2. Type each user's mobile number and a PIN for them.
  3. Tap SAVE USERS. Saved users turn green. Clear a number to remove that user.

Saving a user's number does not pair their phone. Each user does this once, on their own phone, standing near the unit:

  1. Join the unit's WiFi and tap SEARCH UNIT (see section 3).
  2. Type the 6-digit code from the unit's display. The unit shows PHONE PAIRED.
  3. Under USERS & ACCESS, type their own number and PIN, then tap LOG IN.
Two checks keep the unit safe: the phone must be paired with the display code, and the person must know a number and PIN. A stolen PIN alone does not work on an unpaired phone.
Users and Access page
Users & Access

Record of changes

The master sees the Last 25 Changes: what was changed, the date and time, whose number did it, and whether it was done near the unit (local) or through the internet. Wrong PIN tries are shown in orange.

5 wrong PINs in a row lock the unit for 5 minutes.

Forgot the master PIN?

  1. Switch the unit off and on.
  2. Within 1 minute, flip one of the ID switches back and forth 6 times.
  3. The unit shows USERS RESET. Timetables are kept. Pair and set a new master.

Master reset

Hold MASTER RESET on the Device ID page for 5 seconds (master only, on the unit's WiFi). It clears the users, the internet WiFi and the paired phones, for a new owner. The timetables stay.

PRO: "Access refused"Log in under USERS & ACCESS with your number and PIN.
Phone screen locked by itself: "Screen was auto-locked, Offline Device Lock"Not harmful. See below.

"Screen was auto-locked" message

While your phone is on the unit's WiFi, the screen may lock by itself, and this message appears:

Security and privacy
Screen was auto-locked
Offline Device Lock detected your device was offline for a while

The message on the phone (not on the bell unit).

This is not harmful. Nothing is wrong with your phone, the app or the bell unit. Your data is safe. Just unlock the phone as usual and carry on.

Why it happens: this is an anti-theft feature of Android, made by Google. It locks the screen when the phone has had no internet for a while. The unit's WiFi has no internet, by design, so Android thinks the phone went offline. The DJ Tech app cannot lock your screen; it does not have that permission.

How to stop it:

  1. Best: keep mobile data ON while you use the unit's WiFi. Then the phone still has internet and does not lock.
  2. Or: open Settings โ†’ Google โ†’ All services โ†’ Theft protection and switch off Offline Device Lock. The names may differ a little on your phone's brand. This lowers your phone's theft protection, so the first way is better.
